Overview of the conference

The main focus of the 2024 ASEAN IPA Conference was to exchange views on IP-related aspects of the digital economy within the ASEAN region. The Conference specifically addressed recent challenges and opportunities that ASEAN business stakeholders may face in the digital and borderless age of trade and economics, and offered expert perspectives on its impacts on IP in ASEAN. Discussions also revolved around regional data privacy frameworks and harmonization, and data privacy in an AI-driven world given the increasing use of AI in daily life. The speakers also discussed the impact of AI on the IP landscape and deliberated on bread-and-butter issues like ownership, infringement, licensing, and AI regulation. The Conference also included a live AI workshop on how AI works, along with a case study on the utilization of AI in harmonizing regulatory frameworks.

The ASEAN IPA Conference has proved itself as an effective platform for participants to form networks with like-minded IP experts and professionals. It has provided opportunities to engage in discussions, exchange ideas, and share valuable insights on the rising challenges, trends, and developments in our rapidly digitalized world. This Conference has successfully met its primary objectives by offering a broad range of activities, improving efficiency, and strengthening the position of the Association regionally and globally. This year’s outcomes have demonstrated that the ASEAN IPA Conference is increasingly appealing to both ASEAN and non-ASEAN professionals and enterprises. The Association aims to sustain this momentum and, through ongoing efforts, to enhance the Conference’s regional and global influence.
