Seminar on "Management of intellectual property in enterprises - Japan's experience"

On 16 September 2015, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Science and technology, Vietnam Intellectual Property Research Institute (VIPRI) and the National Center for Industrial Property Information and Training of Japan (INPIT) jointly held a Seminar on "Intellectual Property Management of enterprises - Japan's experience".

The seminar was chaired by Mr. Tran Van Tung, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology; Mr. Naoya Oku, Director of Exploitation - Human Resources Development of INPIT, Japan. Delegates were other experts from INPIT, JICA, JETRO and representatives from enterprises, universities and research institutes of Vietnam that owned intellectual assets and / or took intellectual assets management activities, as well as representatives from a number of IP state management agencies.

At the seminar, Mr. Kohno Hideto, introduced some Japanese typical SMEs that effectively exploited their IP, especially patents; conducting patent portfolio and patent transfer; exploiting / using of patents on a global scale; building alliances between Japanese SMEs; some cases of counterfeiting infringement of intellectual property rights ... After that, Dr. Dao Minh Duc presented some initial experiences in IAM  training activities and the IAM organization in some typical enterprises in Vietnam; IAM training programs at different levels for enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City.

Through the presentations, the participants had more aware of the concept, role, significance and the way of to organize IAM activities at their enterprises in order to create, exploit, preserve, protect and develop the intellectual assets’ value in line with their objectives and business strategy. Participants also expressed their concern and real need of attending the IAM training programs that were hosted by the VIPRI for years. Thanks to these programs, they would become the IA managers who give their advice, conduct and implement IAM strategies for enterprises and science - technology agencies.
